Founded as a German automaker in 1862, it became a subsidiary of General Motor in 1929. In March 2017, French automobile company PSA group agreed to acquire but the acquisition is still pending due regulatory approval from European Commission. The company designs and manufactures passenger vehicles, light commercial vehicles and Opel spare parts distribution in Africa, Asia, Europe and South America. Its vehicles are also sold under the name of Buick in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and China while its brand Holden is available in  Australia and New Zealand and the Vauxhall is available for sale in the United Kingdom.
